Houston ISD launches electronic newsletter

The Houston Independent School District recently launched an e-newsletter to provide the community with information regarding bond projects.

According to a press release, the newsletter will be sent out on the first Tuesday of each month, however, distribution may increase at certain times.

"This new newsletter will help us deliver on our promise of a bond program that is transparent," Aggie Alvez, communications chief for Houston ISD, said in the release. "Each issue will include the latest updates on everything from bond business topics to design and planning issues. The goal is to keep the community informed and engaged."

The first issue of the newsletter included an article about focus groups that were held to find out what students want to see in the new schools, which will be funded by the 2012 bond. A total of 40 new schools are expected to be created across the city, among them 29 high schools.

"People want a bigger atmosphere to learn and socialize not limited to space that makes you feel crowded and depressed," Hugo Rojas from Davis High School said in the release. "We need the whole environment to be presentable for us to be pumped to go to school."

Newsletters will be archived on the Houston ISD's website at www.houstonisd.org/bond.

Individuals can subscribe to the e-newsletter by sending an email to bondnewsletter@houstonisd.org.
