Legacy Community Health is opening a mobile dental unit in Houston to increase access to state-of-the-art dental care, it was recently announced.
According to a press release from Legacy Community Health, the unit will have a scheduled route traveling around the city to schools and community centers providing exams, cleanings and preventative care. A dentist, hygienist and registered dental assistant will staff the mobile unit. Medicaid, CHIP and most private insurances will be accepted. A sliding scale of fees will be available to patients without insurance who meet certain eligibility requirements.
Providing care at schools ensures that students will have ready access to dental care, eliminating the transportation issues that can prohibit regular dental visits. Mobile unit visits will only require a student be out of class for 30 to 45 minutes.
Legacy Health Care intends to increase access to health care regardless of a patient's insurance status or ability to pay.
LCHS initiatives also include a new headquarters campus in Montrose, building renovations, additions of services in the Fifth Ward District and expansion of services in Baytown and Beaumont.
