Houston City Club steps up children's tennis efforts
The Houston City Club recently completed its junior tennis program in August.
The program taught more than 300 children this summer.
The club has also become one of the first in the city to alter the appearance of two of its courts to embrace the new rule that the United States Tennis Association is requiring for 10-and-under players, effective Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012.
Additional lines have been painted on the two courts to designate a 60-foot-by-21-foot court, suitable for 9- and 10-year-olds, and 36-foot-by18-foot courts for children age 8 and under.
“The club is committed financially and physically to develop a superb junior program,” said Greg Vinbladh, director of tennis.
The club is accepting players for its fall after-school program. Juniors are divided into age-appropriate classes.
