Students from a University of Houston course on graphic novels
The first three images are from A Conditioned Reflex, written by UH grad student
Dimond says that Mat Johnson, the author who teaches the graphic-novel course at UH, proved "a great explainer of the practical realities of making a living in the arts," in addition to having students study a variety of graphic novels.
The second set of images draws from an in-the-works comic serial called NYX@Nite, written by UH creative-writing grad student Whitney Mower. The story centers, Mower says, on a girl named Nyx, "who, after her mother's death, encounters an insane and surreal insensitivity among family at the funeralcoupled, of course, with religious fanaticism. So after Nyx decides to try and press the psychological (or psychedelic, rather) 'reset' button."
